It represents an experience of music where emphasis is on the vertical, profound plane rather than on the narrative expression on the horizontal linear plane musicians Le batteur américain Roy Haynes s’est fait connaître sur les scènes du jazz en jouant dans le big band de Luis Russell puis avec Lester Young, et surtout en entrant de manière fulgurante dans l’ère du be-bop dès le courant des années 1940 en remplaçant Max Roach chez Charlie Parker. Se produisant ensuite avec tous les grands maîtres de ce nouveau style de jazz, il accompagnera également durant cinq ans la vocaliste Sarah Vaughan avant de poursuivre sa carrière auprès de musiciens aussi importants et divers que Thelonious Monk, Stan Getz, Eric Dolphy, Lee Konitz, Sonny Rollins, Gary Burton, John Coltrane et plus récemment Chick Corea ou Pat Metheny.
